Isle of Solaria

For all you lovebirds out there... In honor of Valentine's Day, I went looking for a romantic Sim, that was different then the normal dance in the sky places out there in SL.  I wanted someplace you could explore, that was beautiful, and peaceful.  A place that had several places that you could pause a share special moments with someone special.  What I found was Isle of Solaria.

It's a beautifully well built Sim by Rogermat resident.  This Sim has amazing landscaping, horse back riding, caves, hideaways, a sky castle, hang gliding, couple walks and animations, dancing, and so much more.  There is a teleporter near the entrance that will guide you to the other parts of the Sim.  I will say honestly there was one drawback.  As beautiful as it was, some of the animations, and furniture didn't work. However, after I mentioned this, Roger invited me to come show him what wasn't working, so he could fix it.  Great service in my book.

I brought Jaysen along with me on the initial scroll, and we tried out several poses and the hang gliding. Wish I took a picture of the hang gliding.

Q&A With Rogermat Resident

Question 1:  Where did the concept for your Sim come from?
Answer - I'm not sure if it was a concept, it just developed as new ideas came along while working on it.

Question 2: What inspired you to follow through with the concept?
Answer - Positive feedback from friends and others who liked what I did, and the idea of building a dream island.

Question 3: How long did it take to build this Location?
        Answer -About 2 months

        Answer - 65536 m2

Answer - I dont take donations for the sim or myself, however I collect donations for a good cause, the world food programme (wfp.org). All donations goes to them. I hope this can be a small contribution to a better world, and that we can help people that really needs it.

Question 6: What did you hope to gain or acheive when opening the location?

Question 7:  If for whatever reason this Location should ever close, would you ever take on the task of building another?  Why, or why not?

Question 8:  What do you hope others get out of coming here?
Answer - relaxation, meet new and old friends, good conversations, romance and fun events.

Bubbles in Wonderland

"Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (commonly shortened to Alice in Wonderland) is an 1865 novel written by English author Charles Lutwidge Dodgson under the pseudonym Lewis Carroll.[1] It tells of a girl named Alice who falls down a rabbit hole into a fantasy world (Wonderland) populated by peculiar, anthropomorphic creatures. The tale plays with logic, giving the story lasting popularity with adults as well as children.[2] It is considered to be one of the best examples of the literary nonsense genre,[2][3] and its narrative course and structure, characters and imagery have been enormously influential[3] in both popular culture and literature, especially in the fantasy genre." Wikipedia

I found this sim by looking at the Second life's destination guide.  Having a love for fairy tales, and childhood stories, I had to go check it out.  When you first pop in, you are at a school house, surrounded by playgrounds, and other equipment.

Following the arrows you are led to a house, and inside it, Alice's Bedroom.  Straight out of the Book, "Through the Looking Glass", you are transported to a magical world.  It's impossible to explain everything you see here on your journey, but I can say my breath was completely taken away as I continued to explore, seeing so many references not just of the books, but of the several movies, animations, and art showcasing scenes, and characters in several different viewpoints.  From the "Drink Me" Potions, (That actually gives you the perception of being shrunken down) and "Eat Me" Cakes to the extravagant Queen of Hearts Castle,  I was left in complete awe, expecially knowing or having some idea how long, and the dedication it took to make that come to life.
The Sim is full of mazes, that I will be honest and say I spent some time navigating through and getting lost in.  I tried not to cheat and cam ahead.  With each door you reach, comes a new surprise, that at multiple points I wondered... "Is this the end?"  The entire location can easily take an hour just to find the end, and with many animations and poses along the way, you never get bored exploring.  This site is a must see for all explorers.   When you reach the queen's castle, Don't be afraid to stop, and paint the roses red.  :)

2/6/13... Interview with Bubbles Urvilan, creator of Bubbles in Wonderland.

(Erin):  Where did the concept for your Sim come from?
(Urvilan):  I built a house of cards, and it just went from there.
(Erin): What inspired you to follow through with the concept?
(Urvilan)I just had a lot of fun building it, and finding objects while shopping throughout SL.
(Erin): How long did it take to build this Location?
(Urvilan):  I've been working on it for almost four years now. I'm always looking for ways to make it better.
(Erin):  How big is the plot this Location is on?
(Urvilan):  It started on a small rental plot, and has moved three times as it has grown. It is now on a 3/8 of a sim plot.
(Erin): What did you hope to gain or acheive when opening the location?
(Urvilan):  I just wanted to share the story of Wonderland with everyone.
(Erin):  If for whatever reason this Location should ever close, would you ever take on the task of building another?  Why, or why not?
(Urvilan):  In a heartbeat. I love creating fun places to share with others.
(Erin):  What do you hope others get out of coming here?
(Urvilan):  I just want people to have an enjoyable time. A place to just be a kid again.

Dryland

Welcome to Dryland, Home of the Carnies!

When I first read about Dryland, I didn't expect to find what I did.  I was told it was a desert, dry, no water, rusted ship remains, and so forth.  It was interesting to stumble upon a sand figure of a pregnant clown, and other Carnie fun.  I ended up having a lot of fun exploring.  Nothing tops being reborn from a sand clown.    It's also where I met a new friend, Oblee.  (I'll have to talk more about him, and his live music venues another time!)  This place holds a few surprises, and the art gallery is unique as well.  Visit, and let us know what you think!

From the Artist of Dryland, [Anita Witt (aniwitt)]:
A giant dried out lake, a parched and barren lake bed with hulks of old rusted ships, now resting on the dried cracked mud. A once desert island with decayed warehouse buildings which now holds a gallery. The surrounding landscape slowly being occupied by gypsies, carnies and tradespeople. This is Dryland, the new sim design by Anita Witt.

Inspired by the man-made disaster that is the giant dried out Aral Sea in Kazakhstan/Uzbekistan.
Once the fourth largest lake in the world. Now reduced to a pale (heavily polluted) shadow of its former self, by thoughtless and ineffective irrigation projects in the surrounding areas, effectively cutting off all major water sources.
More information about the Aral Sea here:

PLEASE NOTE: For the best possible visual experience of the sim, enable Lighting & Shadows and set draw distance at 500 meters or more.

* C I C A *

Hi all!  This is a sim I came across when I read about it on www.juicybomb.com, one of my favorite SL fashion blog sites.  This is a really fun and adorable Sim, I've been back so many times.

I love the simplicity of it, and the whimsical charm.  The creator, Cica Ghost also has a store, selling a lot of the decorations, and designs you see around the sim.
It's all black and white, about a 1/4 of a sim large.  There are little houses, pathways, a place to sit and listen to music.  It's great for photography.  Everything looks as if it's been drawn by a child's hand.  Stick figures, cute little flowers, wind, clouds, butterflies and more.  My most favorite part of this place is the rain.  With the puddles, and falling hearts, it's really a must see!

This Way Traveler Begins

It's a new year everyone!  New Year full of hopes resolutions and more.
To start off the new year, I've decided, I'm going to be more committed to my blog.  I keep saying I want to do it, and then never do... well now I will.

One of my most favorite things to do in Second Life, is explore different Sims.  I'm always on the look out for new and different places, something fun and interesting.  If you have any places you find unique and would like to share them, send me a LM in SL, attached to a note card, explaining why you like this place to Abigail Erin.  I will take a look, and mention it in the blog.  If it's really fantastic, I will do an entire article about it.

Last year I found several sims worth mentioning.  I'm going back to my favorites over the next few days, getting more images, and details, talking to the sim owners, and so on, so I can create articles for them.
This was taken at the Water Reserve.  More Details Later.
